Kinross-shire Move Greener looking for volunteers

Kinross-shire Move Greener Organisation.(KMGO) looking for volunteers for a bike share project

KMGO is a small charitable organisation run by volunteers with the 3 inter-linked aims of:

- Reducing the environmental impact of cars (e.g., promote less ownership and more sharing).
- Promoting health and well-being (e.g., give up a car and do more cycling (eBikes), rolling and walking).
- Through our projects], create local economic activity (stay local, spend local).

KMGO Vision

- a mixed fleet of electric vehicles operating throughout Kinross-shire.  This will include shared cars, minibuses, vans, eBikes,  eBike variants for use by those who are differently able and commercial eCargo bikes for by businesses and organisations.
- new and safer, cycling, wheeling and walking routes and activities.
- An income generating but not for profit operation which will employ and train local people of all ages and abilities and use the services of local businesses – to generate local economic activity as a deliberate side effect of our core projects.

KMGO Track Record – with the support of the Community Council, P&KC and others, we have delivered and continue to operate a successful car share scheme in Kinross and we have now secured funds from the Energy Saving Trust to run a bike share pilot.  These are our first purposeful steps on route to realising our vision.

Whilst our car share scheme is run in conjunction with a commercial partner, and, for KMGO, it’s fairly light touch, our next project; bike share, will require more people to make it happen and to take us towards realising the vision.

So, we are looking for volunteers* from across the community to help us take this exciting project forward.  We are still thrashing out the pilot project operating model but, starting in Spring of this year, we will need good people to:

- Issue the bikes and receive / recover them back to base
- Train as bike mechanics and maintain the bikes
- Train as cycle leaders and then lead group rides
- Do the back room stuff, such as monitor bookings
- Bring creativity and help shape where we go next

We are also looking for premises where we can store, maintain and charge the eBikes.

If you are interested in our project and want to help take it forward, please do get in touch.  A couple of hours a week/month of your time , sharing ideas and contacts, putting us in touch with someone who could provide premises etc – all offers will be gratefully received.  Please text Alan Thomson on 07512 264082 or email at alanbthomson@btinternet.com

(*Whilst we are seeking volunteers at present, the operation will, in time, be self-funding (through bike hire, course, led ride fees etc) and we will be able to offer paid work .  Those good people who volunteer to start with, will be in the very best position to benefit from this when the time comes).
