A concert with new collaborative pieces from poet, author and playwright Liz Lochhead with The Hazey Janes.

In the darkest days of December 2015 Liz Lochhead, Scotland's National Poet, and The Hazey Janes with saxophonist Steve Kettley all worked long, long hours in the studio at An Tobar on Mull to create the album The Light Comes Back. The cover image was drawn by Liz at dawn on the morning after the longest night. In spite of her primary school teacher telling her she should only do silent singing, Liz is now performing with some of Scotland's finest musicians. Funny how things work out in the end!

The project grew from Liz’s long friendship with the late Michael Marra, his son and daughter play with The Hazey Janes, who spent time at home improvising with Liz Lochhead’s narrative in mind. They brought this to the studio at An Tobar, and as they played the arrangements Liz managed to select the ideal poem from her portfolio! From the monochrome stills of “Some Old Photographs” to the weightless optimism of “In The Mid-Midwinter” the words and music hang in perfect balance.
