Jess Smith is a Scottish Traveller, although her days of travelling finished when she met her non-Traveller husband Dave, memories of her childhood never left her.
Living in a Bedford bus and travelling the summers, mainly berry-picking then travelling the old roads before winter settling for the tattie lifting, became the contents of several books- three which are autobiographical.
Part of her upbringing was listening to stories and songs, shared around campfires by the old ones.
It was a promise she made her father that led to her latest book Way of the Wanderers.
Humour and fun shadow walked her story of life as a Scottish Traveller and it is this she shares at Kinross-shire Winter Festival.
